Can it be misplaced priorities?! By: Honorable Dr. Janice Daniel-Hodge

The first day of school, for a new school year, is usually filled with joy and excitement for most children. Teachers prepare to welcome their new students and parents are full of hope that their children would settle down, take school seriously and strive to be the best students that they can be.
I visited the Violet O. Jeffers Nichols Primary School (VOJN) and the St. James Primary School (SJPS) this morning. I took the opportunity to welcome new and returning teachers and extended best wishes to all for a successful school year.
Let me take this opportunity to also wish all of our students and teachers, across the federation, an enjoyable and successful school year.
Despite the concerns expressed across social media about school readiness, I was still very disheartened when I walked into the St. James Primary School yard this morning. The children were restricted from half of the courtyard that was cordoned off as a construction zone, temporary classrooms had to be arranged and the loud sounds coming from pounding and drilling made it difficult to listen to others speaking.
No one knows when the construction will end but certainly the St. James Primary School was not in a condition to be reopened today!
No one is held accountable in this failed CCM administration so year after year we suffer, our children and teachers especially suffer. They have shown over and over again that the people of Nevis are not their priority; they find it so easy to get things done for their VIP and overseas friends but it is always a struggle to get things done for those of us who reside here. We cannot continue like this!
